American Lit & Comp Course

High school students will walk the literary timeline through this year-long survey of American Literature, focusing heavily on short texts with forays into several longer works. We’ll observe how literature develops in America, how it is influenced by changing ideologies and historical events, and how it gains an identity as distinctly American. An underlying, guiding focus will be to analyze the worldview expressed in the literature and to consider it within a Biblical framework. The course, designed for college prep students, will require considerable reading and include a variety of essay-length writing experiences, including weekly guided practice in claims-based analytical paragraph writing. Graded and Audit-only options. 1 English credit.
